Jivana Plantation
Sitting on the hillside above the sleepy village of Dandos Wadda, just 2km from Ashwem Beach and overlooking paddy fields, Yab Yum’s Jivana Plantation is the perfect retreat for escapists, artists, yogis and explorers, or simply for those seeking respite from the frenzy of modern life.
Private boutique accommodation in lush gardens / Breakfast inc. / 24hr drinks service / idyllic views / Kitchen Garden / Daytime snacks / Evening meals by our local cooks / large yoga shala / 24hr car service / 24hr security
Often serving as a yoga retreat centre for groups coming to Goa, Jivana's accommodation is scattered throughout 2.5 acres of lush, terraced gardens, which are lovingly tended and play host to mango, cashew and guava trees, tulsi and banana plants and a squadron of butterflies. The large yoga shala is fully equipped and the grounds also hold a massage room, communal seating and meditation areas and several dipping pools.
A 5-minute bike ride from the lively village centre of Mandrem, a 10-minute ride from the tourist enclave of Arambol, and 30 minutes from the throng of Mapusa, Jivana is an oasis of calm where you can sit and watch the stars in privacy and comfort before the sounds of rural India lull you to sleep.
MANDREM & SURROUNDS
Dandos Wadda is part of the Mandrem area, comprised of several bustling, friendly, little villages. Most items can be bought locally: groceries, phone recharges, clothing, trinkets etc... Yab Yum has drivers available at all times to take guests wherever they wish to go; Anjuna, famed for its market, is 25 minutes away, and the thriving city of Mapusa is half an hour’s drive. Bike hire is also recommended and gives you the chance to trundle round the country lanes of Mandrem, see the incredible banyan tree, take in the temples and vivid colours and pause for fresh coconut milk by the side of the paddy fields.
Plantation guests also benefit from access to our Ashwem Beach site where they can relax overlooking the beach, watch the sunset and enjoy a cocktail after swimming in the warm Arabian Sea. Also at Ashwem Beach we have a yoga shala and massage room that are available to Plantation guests.
Just a few minutes from our gate on Ashwem Beach you will find many cafes, bars and restaurants, including the renowned La Plage French, fusion restaurant and a host of others serving diverse dishes, always with an emphasis on the fresh seafood that Goa is so well-known for.
A 40-minute walk along Ashwem beach (or a 10 minute drive) will bring you to the backpacker and 60s hippy enclave of Arambol. Here you can enjoy shopping for all kinds of trinkets and gifts, clothing and jewellery. Arambol has a large selection of restaurants and bars including Fellini’s, a very popular, Italian-owned pizza restaurant, and Double Dutch which serves some of the best homemade cakes in Goa. Also in Arambol are money exchanges, barbers shops, the German bakery, beauty salons, tattooists and healers of every kind, it is also a good place to tap into what is currently happening for tourists in the area.
